Focus the Nation

Hello all! “Focus the Nation”, a global climate change teach-in, hosted at La Roche College’s Kearns Spirituality Center, was a true success and proved to be very informative for all who attended.
Also, I look forward to the trip to New York City, sponsored by College Activities, in April.
On next Wednesday, February 6, I will depart for Washington, D.C. to attend the National Prayer Breakfast. One of the most notable guests will be the President of the United States, as well as international and Congressmen. It is truly an honor to attend this event and, as with any learning experience, it will serve as a time for me to grow as a person.
I assure all of the students, faculty, and staff that, as Commuter Representative, I will inform the college of the plans that we have developed for extra parking on campus, given the campus merger. This issue will be addressed within a couple of weeks, and I hope that our plans will be well received as good solutions to the parking situation.

"Centeredness"

The holiday recess proved to be one of fun and adventure! Christmas Eve, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve were spent in the company of family and relatives, as is always a good time.
On New Year’s Day, my stepfather and I set voyage for Killington, Vermont, where we spent four days skiing on the slopes. It has always been our tradition, and it is a great opportunity to clear one’s mind before returning to college. Perhaps, it is due to the connection with nature or certain elements of peace and solitude that one may find. Whatever the reason may be, the environment found on that mountainous apex provided me with a sense of “centeredness”.
Allow me to digress. It is said that, in life, one must find balance. I believe that on that hilltop lodge, as we rested for lunch, I became quite familiar with this concept of balance. It is that type of feeling that requires no words; one that blindsides you on an idle afternoon.
As I have now returned for the spring semester, studying hard and volunteering in a range of activities and events, I can easily see that life is often filled with so much to do that life becomes too serious, at times. The purpose of life need not be defined through words. Can it ever really be? Although I highly respect the works and minds of ancient philosophers in their quest to define the meaning of life, I feel that perhaps one of the best routes to be taken is simply to live and learn from the source of question, which is life, itself.
In other words, the feeling I experienced skiing was one that I would not trade for anything, because it was truly living, and nothing is more precious than that, my friends.

I am thankful for....

Hello crew! As we all know, Thanksgiving is upon us, and it could not have arrived at a better time. Let me just say, what I am thankful for this holiday…I am thankful for this BREAK! In other words, it’s about time! Fortunately, I have finished all of my research papers and exams, and now I am ready for some leisure and fun nights out on the town. During the break, I will be developing some plans for establishing a social fraternity at La Roche College. I think it would be advantageous to have such a club, because it encourages brotherhood and service, and I believe that it would improve the collegiate environment of La Roche College. Hopefully, it will all work out.
Thankfully, some of my goals, with regard to improving parking issues and instituting a commuter lounge in the Bold Union Room, have been accomplished. Currently, I am working on having a mini-lounge, in conjunction with the Non-Traditional Student Lounge, for the commuters, as an area where they can quickly grab a cup of java and a donut in the morning before class, as well as some other possibilities to improve the commuter experience at La Roche College. Good things are to come, mates!
This past weekend, a group of us went into downtown Pittsburgh for “Light-Up Night”, and it proved to be such a fun time! (Kudos to Eva Ciccotelli for organizing the event.) We spent the night watching the various shows near Gateway Center, roaming the streets, and exploring all eight stories of Macy’s…notably the shoe department. It is times like these, though, that we will remember for a lifetime. So I suppose that this Thanksgiving I am most thankful for friendship and life itself, because not a day goes by that I am not reassured of how great our community is at La Roche College.
I bid you all adieu, and I hope that this Thanksgiving is one of fun, relaxation, and remembrance that life is nothing without those who we call friends and family.

Meet Adam Klikovich!!

Hello crew! My name is Adam Klickovich, a proud sophomore of La Roche College, a graduate of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, and a native of Shaler Township. I am a pre-law student majoring in National Security Studies, and earning a minor in Spanish. Currently, I serve as the Commuter Representative of Student Government Association and a member of the Italian Club, Retention Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, National Honor Society, The National Scholars Honor Society, and founder of Pillars of Leadership and Development. During my time at La Roche College, I have experienced an array of astounding opportunities to network, enlighten my mind, and “expand my horizons.” For example, I have attended the ASGA Conference in Philadelphia, Global Problems/Global Solutions, the 2007 La Roche College Founders Gala, ATHGO International United Nations Global Warming Conference in New York City, and may possibly venture to China in the summer.
I have chosen La Roche College, not only because of the unique aspect of my major, but the fact that it is a well-connected community of scholars and family. You are truly not a number at La Roche College, which provides a format for great professional relationships between students and professors, as well as camaraderie among the students. Also, many people fail to recognize the world beyond the boundaries of their own hometown, state, or country. However, La Roche College seeks to increase the interaction and collaboration of diverse students from all regions of the world.
In the future, I plan to pursue law school and serve as a legislator in U.S. policy and diplomacy affairs. However, I believe in the proverb, “carpe diem,” or “seize the day.” All that lies in the future is uncertain to some degree. As Mohandas Ghandi said, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
